Miners hit the streets: Příbram is preparing a weekend full of experiences, music and traditions
On the second weekend in June, our town will welcome thousands of guests and visitors to the Meeting of Mining Towns and Municipalities of the Czech Republic and the European Day of Miners and Metallurgists. The event will be accompanied by a rich cultural programme for the general public, including musical performances by Lenny, Pokáč, Michal Prokop, Mňágy a Žďorp and others.
The second weekend in June will turn Příbram into a lively centre of culture, history and entertainment. From 12 to 14 June, the 30th Meeting of Mining Towns and Municipalities of the Czech Republic and the 19th European Day of Miners and Metallurgists will take place here. This unique event will attract thousands of visitors from all over the Czech Republic and abroad. The tradition of the meeting began thirty years ago in Příbram.
A great mining parade
Mining meetings are traditionally accompanied by parades in historical uniforms and with musical accompaniment, the so-called mining parades. Three of them will pass through Příbram. The aim of Friday's Small Mining Parade with squatting is the Marie Mine in Březové Hory, which is connected with Příbram's mining history and where the extensive premises of the Mining Museum Příbram are located. On Saturday, the Great Mining Parade will pass through the centre of Příbram. In the parade you will meet not only dressed up members of the mining and metallurgical associations, but also little permons. The route of the last parade will lead on Saturday afternoon from the Ševčinský mine to the Anna mine.
Fun for small miners
Saturday's accompanying programme is also aimed at children. A varied programme will be prepared for children at the Marie Mine, including a mining adventure trail. There will also be creative workshops and an obstacle course. In the Anna Mine area, they can visit a medieval village and try gold panning or watch a theatre performance on a mining theme performed by pupils from the Březohorské primary school. The programme will take place in all the premises of the Mining Museum Příbram, and its popular attractions include rides on the mining train.
Exhibitions, traditions and technical attractions
A new exhibition on the history of Příbram and mining activities in the work of writer and artist Jan Čaka will be inaugurated at the Anna Mine. The Baroque jewel of Příbram - the pilgrimage complex Svatá Hora - will join the celebrations by organising a Mining Mass. The accompanying programme will be complemented by the activities of the state enterprise Diamo. In the Diamo Archive at Shaft No. 15 in Příbram-Brod, guided tours, virtual reality, screenings and a children's zone will be prepared; the mine water treatment plant in Dubenec will also be open.
Music programme of all genres
During the weekend, there will be musical performances by Czech and foreign artists across all genres. Stars such as Pokáč, Lenny, Michal Prokop Trio, Mňága a Žďorp and Vanesa Harbek will appear on stage. Příbram's music scene will be represented by Ginevra, punk E!E or AC/DC revival band Špejbl's Helprs. Fans of mining brass music will also be in for a treat.
