The dam was built as part of the so-called Vltava Cascade in 1957-1962 to balance the fluctuating flow from the Orlík power plant. It is located at 283 m above sea level and is 14 m deep.
The Kamýcká reservoir is less than 10 km long and is not as heavily used for tourism as the neighbouring lakes. However, the right-hand meandering bend of the river, called the Solenická horseshoe, which can best be admired from the high vantage point of the same name on the left bank, is definitely one of the most beautiful parts of the Vltava River.

Distance from Příbram: 27 km.

Raft cruises in Kamýk nad Vltavou are held every weekend, from 01.07. to 11.08. from 10:00 am. Other cruises according to interest after approx. 2.5 hours.
