The initial image of Orlík Chateau as eagle’s nest (Orlík is derived from word “orel“ meaning eagle) located on a rock above river could be fulfilled if the chateau wasn‘t surrounded by Orlická přehrada (Orlík Dam) nowadays. The original royal castle was built in the second half of 13th century and underwent many reconstructions. The latest Neo-Gothic reconstruction took place in the 19th century under the rule of the Schwarzenberg dynasty. An ancestral museum is dedicated to living descendant K. I. Schwarzenberg. The richly decorated interiors are filled with historical equipment and valuable collections: furniture, paintings, trophies or medals that previous owners received for their bravery. The guided tour involves a visit to private rooms where all the family belongings are kept in the state when the family had to leave. Neo-Gothic Schwarzenberg tomb is located in the English garden full of unique plants.
